Really slow to show pictures on PS3

I have thousands of pictures on my PC in year folders. I set up everything in my pictures folder to be shared. I have a wired 100mb connection and a decent PC ging to a sky hb then to my PS3. When i go to view the pictures on the PS3 it takes for ever for them to load, probobly 5 - 10 seconds per image and if i try and scroll down the xmb thumbnails it alost grinds to a halt. Movies are fine and play with no buffering. Any ideas aprecciated.
