[Suggestion] REST API
[Suggestion] REST API
I recently compared a few DLNA servers and love the UMS. It is feature rich and performs better than any other i've tried before. but ...
The GUI still lacks some of the configuration options ( virtual folder management, feed control , ... just to name a few ).
Surely this can ( and will be ) resolved in the future. Version 3.0.0 (alpha) already introduced some more setting documentation when hovering.
Now what is this feature request about?
Implementing a REST API for configuration/control of UMS. This would really make UMS a more "Universal" Media Server.
Please have a look at Serviio's REST API: http://docs.serviio.apiary.io/.
Having a REST API enables a lot of possibilities! A few examples:
- Custom Frontends/Skins written in any language ( PHP, Ruby ... ) skinnable with HTML/CSS. Serviio for example has a php configuration utility: http://wiki.serviio.org/doku.php?id=phpwebui
- The possibility to easily control multiple instances of UMS on different machines with one GUI / WebApp.
- simple Remote Control WebApps ( i.e. for smartphones like iPhone, Android, WindowsMobile, BlackBerry ... ]
What do you think?
