hmm I think I sort of had the same problem. I use Windows 8 pro.
For some reason 2 UMS where open.(check the task bar)

Well I would open let's say folder "A" and I would wind up back inside the main folder.
I would keep going until I could go no more.

I just made sure I quit them both(all) and ...

Any way to force this on UMS settings?
I want files to be 2:21:1,but can't find an option.
I assume 16:9 is default.

Can I change this any other way?
At least I know VLC lets me.

So I have some video on an external hard drive/PC.
Shared the drive on the network.
I made a network drive of it and add it to my main PC.

So I opened UMS and added the network folder.
I played the video on my PS3 and saw no lag on 720P video.
