i am new to ums. how do i find "volumes" so i can access my external hard drive directly for my folders with media?

i'm new to ums after using vuze and then serviio for a few years
when i try to set up the media files for ums to access i can only find all disks
when i search for my media files which are all on an external hard drive i can find that drive from my mac
however, when i open ums on my tv, i can find ...

I am new to UMS and tried to download java 8 and ams 6
both seem to download but when i try to open ums nothing happens
am i missing something? or do i have to do something to open ums after downloading?
i use OS X el capitan latest version
