Well, I too have the same issue. This morning, I did a reboot, launch of UMS and tried a movie.
Went well for about a half hour, then the stuttering starts up no matter if I watch thru the
PS3 or directly to my Pioneer Kuro. Same issue regardless...so, not the renderer it seems.

I tried going to ...

Under Transcode Settings tab;
- select Common Transcode Settings on the left panel..
- select the AUDIO SETTINGS tab in the middle of the blue area with three tabs (vid,audio,subtitles) settings
- make sure the Keep DTS... is UNselected.

It's probably that the transcoding quality is too high for your network. I recommend trying the 3.0-a1 release and running the wizard, that will set some good settings for you automatically that might help

oh geeez...duh. Usually thru my PS3, sometime thru my Kuro TV but seldom and haven't tried it on that.

Now, explain THIS to me :) I just tried playing the MKVs thru my KURO Pioneer plasma...they played fine ...

Emutt, what render are you using? And by subtitles, do you mean SRT's with same name as movie? like: <movie.mp4> <movie.srt>
I have tried all rederers (almost hard to say ;) ) . Some have the subs IN the MKV file...some I have as .srt files in a sub folder.

From what I've been able to isolate it ...

WEll, I've been messing with this since 2.5 and I cannot get anything with a subtitle to even play.
I have messed with the settings etc and nothing will play that has a subtitle.

What am I doing wrong here?

:( Just reinstall UMS and it should be fixed

I actually found I STILL had Java 6 as well as 7 installed. removed 6 and reinstalled..all ...
