[Solved] Mencoder/ffmpeg tsmuxer horrible audio
HI!
First af all thanks for that amazing piece of software
I have some issues, though!!!
Recently I updated to the UMS 4.x serie and ended up with some surprises. I used to transcode all my avi/mp4/mkv to my PS3 without a hasssle using mainly mencoder. Now (UMS 4.x) none of the options (mencoder/ffmpeg and TSmuxer) work.
What is happening is that most of the time an ugly and quite disturbing sound results from those transcoders, whereas with VLC it works up to a certain point, that is untill it uses all my RAM...and my PC gets stuck...yes almost all of my 16 GB are devoured by VLC. The same happend with my ubuntu 14.04 or linuxmint Quiana. Is it maybe due to a certain version of mencoder or ffmpeg?
Being what it is, it getting difficult to watch anything now

Re: Mencoder/ffmpeg tsmuxer produce sounds destroying my ear
Welcome to the forum
Please make logs after you reproduce the problem (in the logs you supplied, no file was played)

Re: Mencoder/ffmpeg tsmuxer produce sounds destroying my ear

Re: Mencoder/ffmpeg tsmuxer produce sounds destroying my ear
It's probably a problem with the version of MEncoder you have installed. Maybe try going back to a previous version

Re: Mencoder/ffmpeg tsmuxer produce sounds destroying my ear
I tried adding mencoder and ffmeg from ppa, but no change, still very noisy
I don't mind using vlc as a transcoder...so could you just check on the vlc dbg file and see why my RAM usage got so high, if ther's any trick to keep it low?
Tks in advance anyway

Re: Mencoder/ffmpeg tsmuxer produce sounds destroying my ear
I'd recommend using FFmpeg instead of VLC, you can make sure FFmpeg is always used by going to the FFmpeg section of the Transcoding Settings tab and unticking "remux videos" and "defer to mencoder". That should hopefully solve the audio issue.
The thing about VLC is that they frequently break features that we rely on and we have no control over which version users have installed, so it's very unstable.
