Known Issues with Xbox One DLNA Features??

Post by Goose7 »

Hello,

Running this on a 27" iMac Core i5 under OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.8

I'm trying to stream my iTunes library through my Xbox One using the Media Player {Preview} app and the recently launched DLNA features.

The directories are all there and I see all of my various folders for artists and albums, but the majority of the tracks refuse to play. When I access the Playlist folder and select PLAY ALL on a selected playlist from the XB1, the track list appears but none of the tracks play. The playlist gets touched one track at a time and then it jumps to the next track a few seconds later all the way to the end, but never plays a single song. All the song info is listed correctly, as is the song length etc. Even the album art is showing up on most tracks, but none of the audio is playing.

I found a few albums that do play, but just a small handful of the hundreds of songs I have in my huge library of music.

Was wondering if this is a bug with the XB1 DLNA stuff, or a problem with your server? I just started trying your app out tonight, so I have no idea what is causing the problem.

I assume a copy of the debug logs might help you determine what is going on?

I will be happy to send them to you, if you can direct me as to how you would like the log sent.

Thanks in advance!

[]Rick.

Hi Goose7, welcome to the forum :)

It looks like FFmpeg is having trouble with the files. Can you please run this command and paste the text output here?

Code: Select all

"/Applications/DLNA Server Software/*UMS/Universal Media Server.app/Contents/Resources/Java/osx/ffmpeg" -i "/Users/rickvartian/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/Steely Dan/Aja/01 Black Cow.m4a" -f s16be -ar 48000 output.lpcm

Thanks for the help.

I assume you wanted me to paste this into TERMINAL?

That is what I did and here was the response...

-bash: /Applications/DLNA: No such file or directory

I tried moving the app to a different location... Placed it in the Applications folder of my actual user section instead of the root. Tried playing some of the same music files but still not getting any success.

I am noticing this line in the logs when the app first starts:

10-21 21:42:05 Process /Users/rickvartian/Applications/*UMS/Universal Media Server.app/Contents/Resources/Java/osx/ffmpeg has a return code of 139! Maybe an error occurred... check the log file

Does that mean that the ffmpeg is already broken at launch?

I am attaching another log file that was generated during my last testing session with my XBox One.

Looking forward to some direction as to what to do to remedy this problem.

Thanks again!

[]Rick.

I appreciate the enthusiasm but remember we are all volunteers here so we give support in our spare time :)

It might be a problem with the version of FFmpeg so please try replacing it with this version: http://www.evermeet.cx/ffmpeg/snapshots ... c669af0.7z

Understand...

Read my mind on a possible fix!

I recently tried that using a version from http://ffmpegmac.net/ and it WORKED! :)

In my case, I used the 64-Bit version for Snow Leopard.

I can now play ALL of the music tracks from my iTunes library, including all of my iTunes Playlists.

Aside from seeing multiple copies of the various iTunes folders on the Xbox One from time to time, this seems to be working now.

I'd take a good look at the ffMPEG file currently included in UMS 4.2.0. At least on my system, it doesn't work for audio playback.

Thanks again for the help! :)

Just tried that newest version you linked above dated 10/19/14.... results... NO GO! :(

I get that same error code 139 when UMS launches as well.

The version I downloaded before from http://ffmpegmac.net/ has a file creation date on it of 10/08/14.

Just put this older one back in and I am able tp play these same test tracks that the newer version refuses to play.

I get an ffMPEG error code of 1 from UMS when it launches using this functioning version.
