Sony kdl-40ex700 config issues
I am having trouble with about 50% of files unable to play on my Sony TV. There does not seem to be a pattern on the types of files. The files will play on a newer LG tv. I am using UMS 5.2.2. I am unfamiliar with how to create config files for specific TVs. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Re: Sony kdl-40ex700 config issues
I have a Sony TV and Bluray player and have decided to not use sony software for playing av stuff anymore. It's just too much of a pain in the ass. They usually play things like mp3s pretty well or low-res codecs okay, but when you get into the HD codecs they "don't support" them very well. They own bluray so they want you using that...not mkv/mp4s with Hi-Res codecs as it reduces their profit margin I would assume.
My honest suggestion is to go and get something else like a WDTV or another media streamer. Something from a company that has no vested interest it its copyright/technology protection. That would explain why the LG TV seems to work pretty well.
That said, what types of files are you asking about. Audio, Video, etc? Many file types, rather codecs will work I have found. I can try to help you sort them out.
Lastly, you could always tell UMS to transcode your files to whatever codecs/file type your device will support. Something like audio-->ac3_448kbps and video-->H.264(mp4/mkv)_~10Mbps. Numbers depend on what type of LAN connection you have.
