accessing UMS via internet

Post by nozza »

Firstly, this is a great product, so easily setup.

In the 'General Configuration' tab under 'Advanced HTTP and system settings' there is an option to 'Enable External network'
does this mean that UMS is able to be accessed from outside of the LAN network? (3g/4g??)

there is no help anywhere, on what this item does.

would like to be able to stream to external devices (windows or android tablet) tried but no success, is this possible??

This option was added to improve startup time for servers that doesn't have an internet connection. UMS fetches some data from the internet during startup and this takes time so this option will prevent UMS from fetching this info (it also removes the WEB folder).

As for a web interface you'll never know what's cooking in the UMS lab :)

I use primarily DLNA, but this feature is desperately needed for Wii U users. There is no DNLA capabilities and the only possibility of streaming local media is through a web interface and the HTML 5 browser on the Wii U. Supported formats are MP4 / h.264+MP3, but also MPEG2 TS with h.264 and AAC (or MP3).

They have a way to do it using vlc web interface and X-split, but the method is complicated and not reliable.
My wii u and I would love to see what you're cooking up for this
