Internet/Bandwidth Usage when streaming within home network.

Post by sickboy_xl »

I recently downloaded UMS as a means to stream video files (particularly mkv files) from my PC to my PS3.
My PC is connected to my modem directly, and the PS3 connects wirelessly. The modem acts as my wireless router as well.
I am allotted limited internet bandwidth each month (150gb monthly).
My question is: Am I using my internet bandwidth by viewing the videos on my PS3 (ie. viewing a 1gb file uses 1gb of bandwidth) because it is connecting wirelessly to the PS3 through the modem/router from the PC or is it simply streaming it from PC to PS3 without using the internet?

Any help would be appreciated.

No you are not using your ISP bandwidth when streaming from your computer. I've had a number of instances where my internet has gone down and I am still able to steam videos from my computer.

Good to know. I just disabled my internet connection and still maintained connectivity. I suppose I could've just tried that in the first place. :? Thanks for the quick response.

You are very welcome. This just happened to be something I'm familiar with, I sometimes get behind on my cable/internet bill lol. So with no cable or internet my only option is UMS and the files on my computer.
