No discovery after subnet/IP change

Post by mikeaoller »

Dear Pals,

thanks alot for this great software, I use it for years and am mostly completely satisfied with it. Few days ago I had to (due to requirements of another software) implement a change of my IP subnet (from 10.10.x.x to 192.168.x.x). In this context I naturally had to change the IP address of the Windows 8.1 machine I run Universalmediaserver on.

Problem: Since the network/IP address change, UMS won't show up on my PS3 until I RDP into the Windows 8.1 machine and click "restart server". That's kinda annoying.

I was on UMS 6.2.0 (Java-8) when doing the change, currently I am on UMS 6.2.2 (Java-8). Except IP/Subnet/GW/DNS I did not touch any settings, neither network nor other ones.

So...maybe somebody knows any kind of advice to make UMS work as trouble-free as before? Is this related to UMS or to the uPNP service and/or other Windowsy things?

Best Regards,
Chris

This is almost exactly the same as the post i made a few days ago, still no response to it, forum response seems very very slow these days, i wonder if support on UMS is dwindling.

Generally the change of the IP addresses should not have any influence on the UMS. Seems to me like some net problem or wrong windows firewall setting. The best way to ask for support is to follow the rules written above and send the log.

As I already stated:

- BEFORE the change of IP subnet and address, UMS was detected like *immediately* - it was already visible on the PS3 when I managed to navigate to the "Video" menu.
- There were NO OTHER OPTIONS changed on the windows host.
- Since AFTER the change the discovery problems are there.

Here the logs package:

Hey dude,

FYI i seem to have had some luck with this issue by simply uninstalling and reinstalling UMS, consider giving that a go, i didn't even need to clear the settings.

It's most like likely Windows Firewall causing the problems

Sorry guys...does anybody work in IT here? If you have two modules of Windows 1) the IP-Config and 2) the Windows Firewall...so how could anyone come to the idea, that, if everything works just perfect, and you then change 1) - 2) could be the problem? If someone came up with e.g. the idea that the UPNP service is bound to an IP or something and hasn't recognized that this IP was changed...okay, I'd give that idea a second thought. But Windows Firewall? No. And especially then NO, if the problem is the same when the Windows Firewall is disabled.

Okay...I followed the rules and uploaded the logs-bundle. So now: what's the result of your analysis?

BTW: This issue is NOT solved in any way. Who set the *solved* flag? And why? I've removed that from the op's subject line.

Have you tried an uninstall/reinstall UMS?

I'm aware this "shouldn't" fix this, but it fixed a very similar issue for me.
