Re: Javaw.exe hangs after UMS quits
What do you think is causing it?

Re: Javaw.exe hangs after UMS quits
I'm not sure but I don't think it is related to UMS. Sometimes Java just shits itself. Hopefully this fix will allow Java to shit itself without interfering with UMS.
Re: Javaw.exe hangs after UMS quits
SubJunk, thanks a lot but I'm afraid nothing has changed =/ it's still hanging as before
Edit: If it turns out difficult to fix, would it be difficult to let UMS check and wait until earlier process has shut down properly?

Re: Javaw.exe hangs after UMS quits
Thanks for the log. It shows that the fix did what it was supposed to (to let the program carry on despite the exception) but that must not have been what was causing your slow shutdown.
I think this is a problem with your installation of Java itself and not UMS. You said you have tried uninstalling Java before, did you restart after that? Maybe if you uninstall it then restart the computer, then install it again, that could work. Also remove any other versions of JRE or JDK on the computer before the computer restart.
I have been frustrated before with a similar Java bug and it only went away after I reformatted the computer so hopefully you don't have the one I had.

Re: Javaw.exe hangs after UMS quits
Hi again
I tried exactly that, uninstalled Java, rebooted, resinstalled Java, rebooted, then install UMS.
My machine is running a vanilla Win7 32bít, no fancy security programs.. just ms essentials, and ms firewall (also tried disabling).
It's pretty much dedicated to serve as UMS server only..
I also tried changing java*.exe's to "run as" administrator.., but nothing helps really. =/
Edit: Oh yeah.. i've had java problems before.. i also had to reinstall windows completely. What about another wrapper? ^^

Re: Javaw.exe hangs after UMS quits
I don't think another wrapper would make a difference. I share your opinion about programs like CCleaner, in my experience they have created more bugs than they fixed, but it might be worth trying a dedicated uninstaller. I Googled and found this http://singularlabs.com/software/javara/ which is just for Java, and some users reported that Revo Uninstaller worked too.
Just taking wild guesses at this point

Re: Javaw.exe hangs after UMS quits
I know them both.. from prior experience they are last resort.. javara was updated last time over two years ago =/
Re: Javaw.exe hangs after UMS quits
These are the steps I take whenever I reinstall a new version of Java (clean install) and it's working fine for me:
- Uninstall Java using Revo Uninstaller (I also use the advanced option and remove any leftover registry entries)
- Delete leftover directories such as: C:\ProgramData\Sun and C:\Users\[name]\AppData\LocalLow\Sun and C:\Program Files (x86)\Java
- Use JavaRa and Select "Remove JRE" button, click next button, click "Perform Removal Routine"
- Use CCleaner and run the temp file cleaner and regcleaner
- Reboot System
- Install latest Java

Re: Javaw.exe hangs after UMS quits
Usually, when i start messing with those kinds of programs things go fuckstick..
I will do this.. i will use another HD, reinstall windows onto that and see if the problem still exists, maybe its hardware related

Re: Javaw.exe hangs after UMS quits
Well, if you don't know what you're doing with registry cleaning programs, it's best not to use them. Just make sure that those leftover directories are gone and that you've used JavaRa to remove whatever else has been leftover by older installs (after uninstalling Java). Uninstalling it and removing ALL the leftover files is mainly what needs to be done for a clean install. But, I think it's best to make sure the registry entries are removed as well (if you're an advanced user and know what you're doing).
EDIT: Try doing it this way. Simple and safer.
