WDTVLive - Resume + subtitle bug [mencoder]

Hi got time to play with the WD TV Live, in pure streaming mode its running smooth sofar..

With mencoder and subtitles.. performance is great! , but there is a few issues.

1. Resuming seems to fail pretty often with mencoder (after this happens, seems like javaw takes up alot of memory (300-500 mb), and takes longer to shut down)
2. With the one movie, SRT Subtitles had to be loaded through transcode folder no matter the subtitle + sub/lang priority in UMS gui

Besides that it's a pretty awesome little player =)

Oh yeah, forgot to mention..

The one file that does not load SRT by default ( nor embedded, when using mencoder) , plays fine , by default selection, with SRT subtitles on my Bravia. (From same server ofc, same file.. same setup.)

WDTVLive is a DLNA bestseller, atleast in my region (nordic/europe) so expected it to be KING.. ok, so it plays streamable formats as expected with UMS.. fine.

If you have subs.. you use mencoder ALL THE TIME..right?.. and here it fails whenever you try to jump forth/back/resume..
It's not instantly messing up.. but if you go forth and back only 2-3 times the movies just blacks out.


The subtitle issue is also the same..
I've been told that it was a priority syntax issue from GUI..
in my eyes, it just seems that UMS prefers the embedded subtitles over external, IF the videofile is streamable by the render

So..still the same, updating the debug logs here.. let me know if i need to provide further info

You don't have to use Mencoder anymore if you have external subs. FFmpeg now supports external subtitles in 2.4.0. If you have an .mkv you can just extract the subs from it and use them externally for FFmpeg if needed.

I know.. but the fact is that; it doesent seem to work many files.. (it's ot, so I'll post a seperate bug report on that..)

Use the #Transcode# folder and select FFmpeg w/ external subtitles (when you have them). You shouldn't run into any problems doing it that way.

IF it turns out that in future UMS will rely on playing subs with ffmpeg..FINE!
i don't have a love relationship to either engine.. i just wan't this player to work!

I bought this WD TV LIVE for my older brother and his family, who is not very technical advanced... you know ordinary people.
Anyways, i had to take the machine home with me , because it simply didnt work =/
So i promised him that i would do what i could, to report bugs and hopefully the devs could fix it.

I'm interested in that "normal" people, like my brothers family can play files , JUST by selecting the file and pressing (PLAY).. ok? - in the end.. THAT's what i'm interested in.

Forget ffmpeg.. i look forward to hopefully hear something from the devs, on the specific matter

I understand that. I'm just offering you an alternative for now since you're having trouble with Mencoder. It's fine if you don't like my idea, but I'm just trying to be helpful and offer you a solution to your problem that you can use (until newer builds come out with better/more support for other devices).

Ok, thanks, but in this case i'd like to be specific on the bug. It should be valid??.. mencoder not working on WD TV Live.. "hellooo" ;D

Mencoder is working fine for me, but that's because I have a PS3 to render with.
