Files aren't marked as played when using VPN
Hi all,
I've been enjoying some vacation time in Brazil and, since my UMS server is in Canada, I've been using OpenVPN to connect and watch my shows. I'm not sure if this is the issue, but most of the episodes I watch here aren't marked as played - maybe one every 8. I watched S03E09 from beginning to end, no pauses.
I tried downgrading the server and nothing. When I was local it was working fine.
I logged everything I did yesterday: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/n08lvfba ... gum4y&dl=0
I don't know if this helps or if the issues are related, but I'm having this duplication of subtitles happening as well: I hope someone can help, or maybe it's a bug with remote access.

Re: Files aren't marked as played when using VPN
I'm not sure what is going on. I see there are no mentions of checking played progress though.
I tested playing a video in my web browser and it only did the "final decision:" on played progress after I clicked the next video button. When playing the next episode did you use this button or go back to the videos list to select the next video?
I have no idea why the subtitles are duplicated. Are you sure this does not happen for this video when local and playing in the browser?
If you change the subtitle language do both change or only one and the other stays English?

Re: Files aren't marked as played when using VPN
Clicking Next worked.
I used to go back to the list to select the next video. I'll start clicking Next from now on: it will not work for the last episode of the season, but it's a good workaround. Thank you!
I will test the subtitles locally in the browser when I return home in two weeks, but surely the duplication doesn't happen on the PS3, Sony TV, or Roku, which I use at home.

Re: Files aren't marked as played when using VPN
Thanks for confirming. I think there is a stopped playing check that is not working for the web player. It probably has to do with the HLS format it uses.
I'll mention this to the devs.
The subtitle thing probably won't happen on the PS3 as the subs will need to be burnt in.
For the web player these separate and can be turned on/off or changed at any point.
Roku will use the same HLS format so testing with that will rule out the transcoding and it just might be an issue with the web player when remote, however using a VPN properly so that your remote computer is part of the network UMS is on should be no different than when local.

Re: Files aren't marked as played when using VPN
It makes sense. Thank you again.
I was thinking about opening a new topic just for the subtitles because sometimes there are five stacked on the screen, and they cover everything. Do you think I should do it?

Re: Files aren't marked as played when using VPN
I have actually heard this mentioned before but I don't think it was ever tracked down as it could not be replicated.
When you get back test by playing it locally and then see if you can replicate this on other devices.
If you can make sure to to create logs when this is happening.
Might be better to make it a new topic so this one can be marked solved once the plated status is fixed.
Someone else confirmed the marked as played problem on the web player on the issue I made on Github so hopefully the devs will look into this soon.

Re: Files aren't marked as played when using VPN
I'm sorry to say that clicking Next doesn't work all the time: it worked only when I clicked on episode 13 but not for the rest: I've tried to figure out why it worked first, but I can't.mik_s wrote: ↑Fri Mar 14, 2025 1:35 pm I'm not sure what is going on. I think it's back to square one.

This is the issue I made if you want to follow progress. Hopefully the cause will be found soon.
