scanning folder stuck on some .mp4 files

Post by proficit »

Hi UMS Friends,

Have been using UMS for many years, no issues. Steadily upgrading versions with no issues either.

Am now on 14.10.1, and all of a sudden when my media library is scanned upon startup, the scan seems to get hung on "some" folders that have a .MP4 file. I was able to confirm this by moving the suspect files out of the scanned folder. Again, its not all .MP4 files, just some of them.

Even if I let the computer on all night, it will just keep saying "scanning folder xxx" and will not move on from there. I have to remove those files from the folder. I tested this further by making multiple folders with the suspect .MP4 files and excluding them here and there, with same results.

I do have the following enabled, though I am doubtful they affect "folder scanning":
Enable external network
Use info from our API
Use Info from TMDB (with proper key)
Generate Thumbnails

My apologies friends, seems this is the same issue as this thread:

I guess I will have to wait until next release?

If those videos had CC1 or similar subtitles embedded then this was causing it to stop scanning.
This has now been fixed for 14.11.0 which should be publicly be released very soon as 14.12.0 was just released for patreons.

If that was not the problem then it might be something else then I will need to see logs to track down the cause.

Yes I think they all had CC1, but ironically they were also all .MP4

All my MKV files worked (but does MKV not support CC1 embedded format?)

Anyhow, I am re-encoding the suspect MP4s to MKV, not sure that will fix it or not.

Will wait for .12 of UMS. thank you...
