Glitching while playing 2160k vides

Post by Petran911 »

Dears hello,

First of all, congrats for the product, it is the best media streamer I have ever tried and I am using it since I had a PS3!

I am using 14.1 and I am trying to play video files in my Samsung Q70 TV, at 2160k resolution. I have tried to change network speed, GPU settings, different engines (FFMPEG and Mencoder), disabling transcoding but it seems that I cant play the videos without having stops approx. each 30 secs. Issue is only happening with 2160K files, and I believe it was better in prior versions. Have tried to use both 5GHz and extenders to no avail.

Any tip so I can increase the speed which seems to be the problem?

As transcoding was disabled for most of the logs I could not see i anything was causing it to normally transcode.
Since everything is being streamed the problem could be with the video format.

If it is starting to play on the TV then the video format is probably supported and the problem may be the network bandwidth to the TV.
The estimated speed to your TV is 21 Mb/s which may be too slow for 4K videos so the TV is not getting the data fast enough casing the glitches.
I don't know the bitrate of that video as those checks were skipped because transcoding was disabled.

Looking at the prev logs that were not in trace mode I can see this is probably the cause.

Code: Select all

File "The.Last.of.Us.S02E02.4K.HDR.DV.2160p WEBDL Ita Eng x265-NAHOM.mkv" will not be streamed because the bitrate (22592825 b/s) is too high (17000000 b/s).
This must have been to VLC as the TV speed was higher this time

Code: Select all

Renderer VLC for desktop has an estimated network speed of 17.842921704435575 Mb/s
Renderer [TV] Samsung Q70 Series (65) has an estimated network speed of 27.159531044014813 Mb/s
I don't have anything that plays 4K so I don't know what bitrate it needs but know those are fast enough for 1080p.
A quick Google search suggests 4K needs 30-100MB/s depending on how it is encoded.

Try and see if there is anything yo can do to improve the speed to the TV.
Try a wired connection instead of wireless, or if you have to use wifi have it as close to the router with a direct line of sight. Avoid using extenders as these could slow it down too.
