Negative Buffer after selecting a .mkv

Post by Der Wigi »

Hy there,

I recently bought a PS3 and immediately installed PMS. At first I tried everything with a wireless connection and it worked! I could play .avi and .mkv. I don´t now why I started looking for a better media server, but I did. I found UMS and because of the good reviews I deinstalled PMS and installed UMS. And now I´m not able to watch .mkv anymore. Everytime I start a mkv movie the TV just turns black and the UMS on the PC shows me a negative buffer which usually starts somewhere around -95000MB. I tried reinstalling PMS but even there I´m not able to watch mkv anymore.

I´m using UMS on a Windows 7 64-bit machine and switched from wireless to a wired connection.

After hours of google and not finding a thing I´m tired. I was hoping to find help here :)

best regards, der wigi

EDIT: Ohh btw I forgot to mention that I allways could watch the avi, mp4-files.

EDIT2: I have figured out that the video playback does work when I start the videos in XMB. But as soon as I try to start a mkv-video within showtime the above mentioned problem starts again. I have the latest showtime which comes with multiman (v. 4.3.37)

same problem here but with me mencoder on the pc is going beserk and uses about 75% cpu power all the time.
When i kill the mencoder process then no more negative buffer (when i give mencoder more time then the more there is in buffer after killing it) the movie starts to play but only for the part that is in the buffer

Yeah I am having the same problem, when it detects the .mkv files (or very large .mp4 files, though it will actually play .mp4 files) mencoder starts heavy usage of my cpu and the buffer goes to about -549 billion. I assume something happens to make the buffer size overflow, but instead of resetting it just slowly pecks away at the absurdly negative buffer for several minutes before it calms down and the buffer just goes back to Empty(and this is all before even trying to play the video, just when it detects it in the file system).

Once everything finally dies down (takes ~5-10 min) then when I tell it to play the .mkv file it will take another 5-10 min of mencoder heavily using my cpu and the buffer being negative. But it will run, it just is a real hassle.

If there are any tips for this, it would be greatly appreciated.
