Windows 8 problem?
Hi,
I'm new to Universal Media Server. I installed it on a Windows 8 Enterprise machine and I'm trying to access it from another Windows 8 Enterprise machine. I can see "Universal Media Server" as Media Server in Windows Explorer. When I open the tree I can see a folder "root". Within this folder is another folder "root" with another folder "root" inside. I opened about 10 levels deep, just to find another "root" folder.
Attached log is just about two levels. Or is that a known issue and I have to reconfigure something?
Edit: The server itsself seems to work as UPnPlay can connect to UMS and sees content...

Re: Windows 8 problem?
hmm I think I sort of had the same problem. I use Windows 8 pro.
For some reason 2 UMS where open.(check the task bar)
Well I would open let's say folder "A" and I would wind up back inside the main folder.
I would keep going until I could go no more.
I just made sure I quit them both(all) and restarted UMS and it was back to normal.
Also if it is Windows 8 to Windows 8,why not make a shared folder?
Then you can map a network drive and be done.
Unless you trying to do something different.

Re: Windows 8 problem?
Thank you, but no - UMS is not started twice.
Originally I'm tried to find a Media Server for the Teufel Raumfeld system, and found the Fritz!Box media server worst of them all. Plex didn't find all what I needed, so I was trying UMS. I cannot say wether it works for Raumfeld as I sent the system back...
I'm just wondering that I cannot use WMP of Windows 8...
Seems like it detects two renderers on the WIndows 8 machine: one WMP and one unknown...

Re: Windows 8 problem?
2b2bff, what's the ip address of your Teufel Raumfeld system. The unknown renderer could be the system your talking about as UMS will default to that if it doesn't match any of it's config's.

Re: Windows 8 problem?
The Raumfeld system is not in this setup anymore.
The win8 system is 192.168.42.69 the UMS system 192.168.42.61...
Seems like the unknown renderer is DAFUPnP from another Win8 system (.62)

Re: Windows 8 problem?
My server is running on Win7 and seem to work well on BubbleUPNP on android, im using the beta build 4.0. On Windows 8, I got a root folder and cannot see any files. Got the default renderer on WMP. Anyone solve this issue?
Re: Windows 8 problem?
Has this issue ever been addressed? I seem to be having the same issue.
I have the server installed on a Windows 7 machine and it works great streaming to every device in my house. I recently got a Surface Pro 3 and it's running Windows 8.1. When I go to browse the UMS server from my Surface, I get the endless root folder issue.
Here's an example image. I can click on Root as many times as I want and it just keeps going. This doesn't just happen when trying through the Windows Explorer. I just used that as an example. This happens in the Video player app as well. Endless root directories.
