Subtitles overlap on Sony W5500.

I recently decided to try out streaming to my Sony TV instead of PS3. I am already using the mencoder settings from this topic viewtopic.php?f=5&t=119 to fix the aspect ratio issue but I have a problem with subtitles. They are shown twice and they overlap each other. I have found that disabling ASS/SSA helps and subtitles are shown correctly but the font is different, there's no black outline or shadow and they seem to be somewhat translucent. Is there a way to make normal ASS/SSA font subtitles work in this configuaration?
