Digital audio issue, some AAC audio not played lossless

Post by karlsong »

Hi!

Have my Samsung Smart TV connecting to PC with latest version UMS over LAN, DLNA. Works fine mostly. though just realized an issue with some videofiles. TV connects to hometheater receiver via Toslink optical cable, receiver indicates with a light whether audio being played is in analogue / Dolby / DTS. Most videofiles with audio in Dolby / DTS play fine as such, but some with AAC encoded audio don't.

Once I tried to enable the "GPU acceleration" option in UMS, out of curiosity. After doing this, all of the sudden the audio of the same videofile with AAC audio that would play as analog, is suddenly putting out digital (sound is way better this way, both loudness and channel separation of dialogue / sfx). Though when using GPU acceleration, the CPU (not GPU) throttles and laptop fans spin up (though I have a dedicated 512 MB Radeon 6500 M videocard in laptop). Also, while using GPU acceleration, I can't fast forward video played (as if indexing doesnt work). Thus, using GPU acceleration is overall a non preferable option for me.

On some files with digital audio the signal output is analog (and sound quality suffers), but somehow by enabling GPU acceleration in UMS the audio is played lossless. Have googled and searched this forum for ways to force lossless / passthrough audio so that files encoded in Dolby / DTS / AAC always play as such, but found nothing. Any ideas ?
