[FIXED] UMS vanishes from Startup and Program Files
As above, it holds one file in Startup after each Restart "uninstall". That's it, all other traces of UMS are gone and I have to reinstall the application every time I restart, when I do it tells me java.exe is running, even though I cannot see it in processes. So I ignore this and install UMS, everything works as it should, but again, once I reboot I am left with nothing and around this loop I go. Please help.
Re: UMS mysteriously vanishes from my Startup and Program Fi
do you have some sort of EWF (Enforced Write Protection) system in place? are you installing on the "C" drive or on a thumb drive?
What's your system OS?

No sort of protection, installing on C as always where OS resides, been using UMS for a few years now and never had this happen. I am running Win7 Professional 64 bit SP1. Thanks.
Re: UMS mysteriously vanishes from my Startup and Program Fi
by any chance... are you logging in with a temporary profile to windows?

Re: UMS mysteriously vanishes from my Startup and Program Fi
no, admin account, same one i have always used.
Re: UMS mysteriously vanishes from my Startup and Program Fi
Can you double check in your registry for me under:
Look for any SID's with a .BAK behind them.
If one of them is your account that you're logging in into now you might have to create a secondary Local Admin account , login with that one, and navigate back out to that Key and remove any .BAK's
other than i'm going to ask what Anti-Virus solution you have, that might be the culprit.
Code: Select all
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

Hi, thank for getting back to me, just checked the registry, no SID's show with a .BAK. I am running ESET NOD32 Antivirus 6.0.316. Thanks.
Re: UMS mysteriously vanishes from my Startup and Program Fi
That could be it, make sure where ever you installed UMS, add that path into the exceptions list of ESET.zer0900 wrote:Hi, thank for getting back to me, just checked the registry, no SID's show with a .BAK. I am running ESET NOD32 Antivirus 6.0.316. Thanks.
I've seen other apps do that with Eset in the past.
I too use ESET

Try that and get back to me sir.

Re: UMS mysteriously vanishes from my Startup and Program Fi
It's a great AV, ok I added it and rebooted but it is still gone, this is really strange. Ok, going to start from the source and remove all traces of java down to UMS, not that I think it never leaves any files behind other than, strangely enough the "uninstall" file. I will fire up Revo Uninstaller/Ccleaner and see if they find any files left behind, thank you again DeFlanko.
Re: UMS mysteriously vanishes from my Startup and Program Fi
Ok, I have removed all traces of Java and installed fresh. Same with UMS. I used Revo Uninstaller Pro to clean deeper remaining files. Installed java, rebooted. Scanned for stuff with superantispyware and malwarebytes, found nothing interesting, tracking cookies really, removed those. Ran Ccleaner to remove crap and clean the registry a little. I also allowed UMS folder and UMS.exe seperately in superantispyware, malwarebytes and nod32 (nod32 HIPS and exclusions under programs). Now, the one thing I failed to mention earlier (sorry I overlooked this) is, UMS still DOES show in Program files, and will uninstall, what messed me up is that, UMS is no longer showing as a shortcut in the startup menu. Also, if I go to the UMS folder via all programs in the startup menu all it shows is "uninstall". Now this location is c:\program files\UMS
if i navigate to c:\program files\x86\ums it shows all files as it should, EXCEPT for "UMS.exe"
Again, UMS.exe will disappear when I reboot, along with it goes the shortcut in the start menu obviously as ums.exe is no longer in it's root dir. I have also tried installing older versions of UMS which did not present me with any issues and I get the same outcome.
I am pulling my hair out at this stage, please help me!
