Adroid device as bridge bewteen renderer and device?
Is it possible to use a device like an android tablet to scan the files on the media server but send the playback to the ps3? If not is it programmable?
I'm thinking of a more complete and pretty interface on the tablet so I could completely bypass the ugly uninformative one from the Ps3. The video would not stream through the tablet.

No.
The only thing currently for the Android OS is Skifta.. and that makes your Android Phone not only stream FROM UMS... but make your Android Device a DLNA server for your media on the phone/tablet...
MAYBE... somthing on windows phone to use a windows domain... but now im just talking out of my ass.
