Re: as per ANOTHER suggestion... 3.2.0 and issues. again.
also, there are two instances of Universal Media Server on my TV, and there are two instances of Java platform Binary in task manager, which is using up over 600MB of memory. Why? One question i have is, "Since java is such a memory and resource hog, why use it? like seriously? Why not C# or ajax?" Why does anyone use java at all anymore? it's like Minecraft all over again. Unles you use "this" gpu or "this" os or have more than "this" amount of memory, your system will fail. That's why it's virtually flawless on xbox 360 is because it isn't a java platform game. I digress...
i bring this up because i noticed also with older versions, that UMS will start to "act up" after a while. video starts to skip or lag or stop all together. it's doing that now. oh, and it is working, unless you haven't surmised this by now; but not without it's problems

ohh this is an easy fix =)Monica Jae wrote:also, there are two instances of Universal Media Server on my TV, and there are two instances of Java platform Binary in task manager, which is using up over 600MB of memory. Kill both instances of java.exe in your task manager...
relaunch UMS -- itll work now.
A lot of things use Java still -- a lot. Its a resource hog only if you have limited resources. My Java.exe never goes above 300 mb, which is pennies compared to my 24 GB of ram.
just curious but what kind of system do you have?

Thats a hell of a debug file.. 25mb... might take a few to look though it -- subjunk will find it right away... watch.. .Monica Jae wrote:well, there is a lot of stuttering...i have "reproduced this bug" ... i think.

Is it possible to restart UMS, change log to TRACE, reproduce problem and make a log? In 25MB file it is almost impossible to search for anything.

Just trying to think outside of the box for a minute here -- and because i don't have a windows 8 machine yet... I'm going to "shoot in the dark for a minute" here.
1) Did you happen to update to Windows 8 SP1 yet? (its a free update)
2) Do you have file extensions turned on in windows?
I know in windows 7 its under here:
then:
Only reason why i ask is it looks like some files in discovery, the file extensions are not being seen (or they are and thats how you have them..)
or
and maybe because the ones that are labeled as such are not really mp4's btu thats how UMS reads them because of the name.:
Also do you use Virtual folders?
_____If so, what happens when you don't virtual folder the same file locations?
