Best format for PS3 stream (no transcode)
Looking for best quality, best sound, format for ps3 streaming with no transcoding required. What are you recommendations, and what tools do you use to get these formats with best results.
My primary collection is DVD rips to mpeg-ts containers with mpeg2 video and ac3 audio at the moment. I was thinking of redoing them in to h.264 mpeg4 and aac audio, but haven't yet achieved decent results with video quality.
I don't care about file size - disk space is cheap. I do care about best quality, both sound and picture.

Re: Best format for PS3 stream (no transcode)
It sounds like your rips are the native format straight off the DVDs, correct? You should be able to stream that with no transcoding to the PS3. Changing formats won't improve quality and you do risk losing something in translation. Only advantage of going to h264 would be size. If you are not worried about that, then I'd leave it alone with what you have.

Yes, they are native, but I tsmux them into .ts container.
They seem to be perfect in quality and sound, but I just wanted to see what others have proven useful.
Additionally, I'll be adding an XBOX 360 and a Samsung Smart TV here shortly, and am looking for best format that will be good for all three devices. (or best format for cross device compatibility as I may be adding blu-ray, or roku or wdtv type devices soon too.

Xbox is the outlier in that group I think. As far as I know, you can only stream avi/dvix. Everything else gets transcoded. Those formats will not stream to the PS3.
to answer your original question, I rip my DVDs/Blurays to harddrive, then use handbrake to make a mp4 file with h264 video and keep the audio stream in its original format. I stream to PS3 and WDTV+ and transcode to the xbox.
Hope that helps!

Excellent, thanks. I'm not sure why I was muxing them in to a TS container, but oh well, they work fine, and they look great. So, I'll stick with that, as it's basically what I do, minus the h264 conversion.
