Hardware Requirments

Post by ssvt »

Hello. Just discovered UMS and would like to try it. Can anyone suggest minimum hardware requirements for the box I'll be installing UMS? (I couldn't find a list on this site.) I'll be using a Linux distro.

Thanks!

I think a Intel i3 or i5 processor (or AMD equivalent) with 4-8gb of RAM with a decent hard drive would suffice. I would personally go with and i5 with 8GB of ram to give you some room for any future needs.

Thank you Optimus_Prime, I appreciate it. I've got some spare hardware laying around that fits that so I'm set.

Seriously?

Back when it was totally free, I ran tversity perfectly fine transcoding to FullHD while playing borderlands on an old AMD 64x2 with 3GB RAM.
How can UMS need an i5 with 8GB?

I'm with iamtk421 on this... First time with UMS, but running very nicely on a Pentium D 830 with 2GB of RAM and an HD6450. Prior to this was running PMS on a ten year-old P4 w/ 1gig of RAM. System requirements are low up until you try transcoding 1080p. Just my experience so far. :)
