UMS Server won't show

I've tried WMP each step of the way since as originally posted i'm also having problems with it, it does pick up the server but shows no folders, this was also the case after a fresh install of windows with windows firewall disabled.

I don't have any experience with WIN 8 but WMP in WIN 7 also doesn't work properly with UMS for me. Try to use e.g the XBMC for testing.
I agree with Heckler that there have to be a network or maybe a Sony Home Theatre System settings problem otherwise UMS would detect something.

I've tried both XBMC and Plex, and both work perfectly fine where UMS still refuses to work properly. While both are good i much preferred Plex, so i will be sticking with that, it's a shame as UMS looks like a nice simple server that could be useful on several other devices.
