Direct Connect?

Post by m3rr »

Hey There , must admit , ignoring a little port issue I stumbled across (on my end) I love UMS , so thank you for this great piece of software.

I am however curious on something.
I currently am running UMS on my PC and have it directly connected into the back of my television.
My TV is not however on the LAN.

I'm curious if it's at all possible to get UMS to detect my Television?

It's a Samsung with Media Share and previously I've had it on the LAN. However that's not an option currently.

UMS is lan based only, if you directly connected it from your PC's video card to your tv, then why not just setup your TV as a second monitor? and play the videos directly from say VLC Player...

Hey! Thanks for the reply and pardon me for not replying sooner.

After re-reading my first message , I can see how I may have mis-represented my situation.

Ok
So , My Television is my Monitor. The issue is that my Video card doesn't put out at 120hz and my Television is 120.
So , I use the Samsungs All-Share or MediaPlay feature to access my videos and such normally through the LAN. However with my current setup
my television is not connected to the network. It is however directly connected to my PC through an Ethernet Cable.

The Television shows up on UMS as a renderer. However when I try to use my MediaPlay or check my sources , UMS isn't present.

Really it's not the end of the world to watch everything in the 70hz my Video Card Max's at but , common. 1080 120hz... Why not?

With my samsung it shows up as an Input.

[HDMI Icon] HDMI 1 = Directv box
[HDMI Icon] HDMI 2 = PC
[UMS Icon] Universalmediaserver

I would just input down till i got to UMS and select form the allshare menu "videos" and then my folders from UMS would show up.

also, because you're directly connecting the two, are you using a crossover cable? Do you have a router in between the two?

is the networking part setup correctly between the two? Tv's gateway is your pc? etc...

Hi there , thanks again for the reply.

I was not using a Crossover Cable , however since have bought one and tried it still no luck.

I've also tried hooking it up to a switch (as it stands now) and my Television still wont recognize it on MediaPlay, or AllShare.

However UMS does see the Television.
