Ok, i'm no expert on MP3's, but just made a test on a MP3 using VBR, and duration comes up fine with mediainfo

There's not a problem to come up with a duration, the question is if it's the correct duration. If it is like I believe, with no time markers in the stream, you'd then have to parse the whole file and calculate the exact average bitstream to get the correct duration. It very well be that mediainfo does this, but that's not the point. My point is that from a player's point of view, it has to guess the remaining time. Because you can't get it correct without parsing the whole file, it might be that the VLC devs didn't put very much into making the guess good. I wouldn't, a guess is still a guess.

Don't you get the same behaviour in VLC with your test VBR MP3?

Yea, i get the same behavior in VLC

So the only difference is that mediainfo does not get "duration" on the file by OP

I have reencoded the file in CBR, and no issue anymore. So it is really an issue with my Samsung and this MP3 file.

Very likely an issue with your Samsung and any VBR MP3.
