I tried the settings you suggested subjunk, no difference (saved and did a reset, actually restarted the pc..)

I presume you or someone has checked the log i posted with my initial post?

Though to be honest, a quad core 4gigs of ram, cat5 cable when most people use Wifi and only trying to stream 720 content im not sure why you think its a hardware bottleneck?
And also this is happening with content that i could play happily/easily a few months ago

Cheers for the help so far though guys :)

I seriously doubt if it has anything to do with UMS. I have seen the screendumps of your network speed and to be honest, your speed is not that great.
I would check cables and the network adapter settings. Speed and Duplex settings are often configured for auto-negotiation, so if that does not result in the optimum speed that you want, you can also have stuttering problems. What kind of adapter do you have in terms of speed 10Mbps, 100Mbps or 1Gbps?
Your hardware should not be the bottleneck; I run UMS on similar hardware with no problems at all.

Now correct me if im wrong, but i have roughly 90 Mbps speed from my pc to my PS3.. so this rules out a 10Mbps adapter? and cat5e is rated at 100Mbps so even if i did have a 1Gbps adapter it would default to 100 unless i used cat6. Taking into consideration packet loss an average of 90, whilst not being great should not be a problem unless UMS is trying to put more data across it than that and with subjunks edits he asked me to do that should not happen? (What is the speed requirement for streaming 720? Ive read Wireless-N will smoothly and thats 54Mbps max)
So unless im mistaken my average speed of 90Mbps whilst not being great should easily be able to handle this. If this is the case network tinkering will have no effect other than to delay finding the real fault.

I would like someone if possible to confirm the log looks fine as coincidence or not i have an unknown renderer listed and i never noticed it when the problem didnt occur

Thanks again :)

Well..... 'may' have found a solution

Got the idea from this thread http://www.networkedmediatank.com/showt ... ?tid=45127

essentially people have problems streaming over a 1Gmps network but when putting anything in line that was 100Mbps the problem went away!

So.... i went to my network adaptor (windows 7, right click the network icon by the clock, open network and sharing, change adaptor setting (top left), double click the adapter, select properties, then Configure, find Speed&Duplex and changed from 'Auto-Negotiation' to 100Mbps, click ok. Restart system (just to be sure)

BOOM working stutter free
720 is peaking at 39Mbps so why on earth you where thinking 90Mbps would be an issue??

Anyway, ive added as much info as i can in case anyone else comes across a similar/same problem, might save someone else a headache.

Why though?!?!? Im sure one of you clever guys will have an idea but if not can pass this 'fix?' on

Thanks for your time guys :)

Cool, Pretty much what SpeedyQ said ^^ , ow yeah.. have you updated your network card drivers recently. it may be worth trying to "downgrade".. maybe try install the original drivers that came with the card.
If it does not help you can alyways resintall newest drivers.. i would go there.

SpeedyQ mentioned network speed... that's about it, not that im devaluing his input but what he said and what i found are not pretty much the same. Unless your saying he said i need to find the best setup for my setup in which case that was a stupid thing to say as ... ya think?! lol

But anyway..

As i said in my first post, did a clean install and added a couple of programs. All drivers have been added by windows update (good thing or bad thing? probably bad lol)
But i guess a driver update at some point in the recent past had been applied, and im sure many others go down this route and a simple 'try restricting your adapter to 100Mbps' answer might help a lot of people

Thanks again :)

Glad you found out how to fix it. :)
Back to those network screendumps; my comments on that were because it does not tell that much.
Measuring speed with 200 Mb file will give other results than sending over 2000 files of 10.000k and it also does matter what kind of protocol is used to transfer the data.
So your test gives an indication, but is certainly not the same situation when you are streaming.
Anyway, enjoy using UMS.
Cheers mate.

I do also suffer some random stuttering with both an HP Laptop I7-3610 2,3 Ghz (4 cores + HT), 6 Gb RAM and gigabit ethernet,
and a no brand laptop Core 2 Quad (4 cores without HT) 2,0 Ghz with 4 Gb RAM and gigabit ethernet.

The videos start well for a while without stuttering, but after a while they start stuttering, work good for another while,
stutter again (sometimes until the end of the file). Sometimes you can see an entire movie without a glitch, and then
stuttering on a short TBBT episode.

Both laptops are connected directly to a no brand gigabit switch with cat.5e wirings, PS3 is also connected (with another
good cat.5e wire) in short distances, 2 - 5 meters.

It happens more often in the latest versions, but I can't find out what the problem is, as the task manager do not
show exceptional CPU, bandwith or bandwith consumption.

I think it would be nice if UMS debug could get some track of the renderer bandwith or TCP/IP frames.

Just as additional information, both are Windows 7 ultimate x64.

Hi zephyrot,

Since your problem is another story I suggest that you post your issue in a new topic, so that we can focus to get yours resolved as well.
But for a quick reaction:
At least I would also start checking if your network adapter is working at the correct speed as you would expect, so the same check speed, duplex settings and auto-negotiation setting.
Secondly you have to provide more info via debug.log, and do you run UMS as a service or not?. When running as a service you should allocate enough memory for java wrapper which you can set when installing UMS.
You could also lower the movie streaming quality settings, just to find out if UMS or your network is the bottleneck.
This should give you some pointers, but again if you can't get your problem resolved please start a new topic; info that should be provided by you can be found on the forum. Good luck. ;)
