Apparently Samsung Q7 series TVs don't support avi or the vast majority of codecs used in those containers. It's a shame to have so much content cut off from the native TV player. Here's a community discussion about it on the Samsung user site:

I'm curious if there are pre-created config files or settings list out there that address this for this model? Googling/forum searching doesn't give too much clarity

It doesn't seem to be a Q7 profile, but there seems to be for Q6 and Q9. The differences are probably relatively small, so you could just modify one of them. It's pretty simple to modify the "supported" lines. If you read a bit on this forum, you will find information, and some documentation also exists in "DefaultRenderer.conf". Basically, anything that isn't listed as "supported" is transcoded, so to make sure it transcodes AVI just make sure it's not listed as "supported".
