Unable to find a working setting / transcoder for m4v

Post by NightHawkCA »

Hi all - I have a medium amount of m4v files that will not play on anything other than Apple devices (ATV2, iPhone, iPad).

I'm trying to find a setting that will allow me to play them on either my Samsung SmartTV or a Toshiba BluRay player.

If served over DLNA, the transcoder will go crazy. By "crazy" I mean the Peak Bitrate jumps to 754,974 Mb/s, isn't that impossible? Also the fans will turn on, system CPU usage to over 50 percent, then it gives up and tries the next file.

When it did jump like that, this is in the log file:
01-15 13:57:40 Buffer read ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException error:
01-15 13:57:40 readCount: "9223372034707283968"
01-15 13:57:40 maxMemorySize: "209715200"

Transcoding Settings don't seem to improve playability, nor do having Engines on/off (except VLC, it always has to be off as all it does is open then close the app again).

I tried putting things back to default by deleting the .conf file while UMS was shut down, that didn't help.

Transcoding Settings >
FFmpeg > Enable multithreading=on, Remux=on
tsMuxeR > Force FPS=off, mux=off
MEncoder > Enable multithreading=on, Remux=on
VLC = disabled (as, having it enabled does nothing except freak out VLC app)

General Config > Default Renderer = AirPlayer, although I've tried Samsung AllShare and several others

Is there any way around this? Thanks.

Hi NightHawk,
The bit rate sometimes go throught the roof when trying to transcode these types of files (Also this is why your CPU and fans spin up due to the load transcoding puts on the CPU). I personally don't have any m4v files but i'll have my mac box back on monday so i will convert a few files and try and see if i can transcode them to my samsung tv.
