Unhandled exception warning "CC3"

Post by albertatoltec »

This isn't a extremely large issue but I submitting should it not be known. I haven't seen any other posts that describe the same issue.

I have a number of DVD titles which I have placed in a drive visible to UMS. When starting UMS, the log becomes extremely large with the warning message associated with all of the DVD titles. It doesn't affect the ability to view the DVD files. Just wondering if anyone else is aware of the message and if there are any plans to deal with it.

I am including a text file which shows the UMS warning message along with the MediaInfo metadata regarding two of the DVD files. All of the DVD files have the metadata descriptions.

Cheers,

This appears to be EIA-608 closed captioning and I don't think UMS is set up to handle it properly, or this is broken.

It would be helpful if you post your logs so I can get more information on this error and what version of UMS you are using, then I'll make an issue on Github to be fixed.

@mik_s,
Thanks for responding. I wasn't really concerned that it would be fixed. I was more curious to see if it was known.

Restarting UMS after Microsoft Tuesday, most of the "Unhandled exception" warnings are for "CC1". See the example below.

I looked back at the DVD files that are affected and I believe I know what has happened. It appears the original software application that I used to create the files automatically added the closed-caption component to the file. After a period of time I became proficient in using ffmpeg directly I stopped using the application and converted the video and audio. Being at the command level and not specifying text or closed captioning streams, those DVD files do not cause a warning in the UMS log file. It means I will have to manually re-encode the DVD files that caused the warnings. I should be done by 2026. :(

Re: Unhandled exception warning "CC3"

Post by albertatoltec »

@mik_s,

Last night I rebuilt the video that I listed previously. This time I took the VOB file directly and used ffmpeg to create the MP4 video file. When the video file was completed, there was a "CC1" component within the metadata. The following is the MediaInfo listing of the metadata of the conversion. Should I submit this as an example of the warning message and a suggested enhancement to UMS to look into the warning?

Cheers,

Re: Unhandled exception warning "CC3"

Post by mik_s »

I had a look around Github for mentions of CC1 to CC4 and I think these are meant to work (was on a 300+ message thread so didn't read most of it) so there might be a bug related to this. Besides that I know little about it.

If you post your logs then I will be able to create an issue for it to be fixed, single line log messages are no good on their own.

@mik_s,
I am enclosing the UMS debug file as per your request. The file show both "CC1" and "CC3" unhandled exception messages and also lists "java.lang.NumberFormatException: For input string:" messages which may be beneficial.

Cheers,

Thanks but they were not in trace mode so it does not show the source of the error, whether it is a database issue, media info, or somewhere else.

Could you do them again while making sure trace logging mode is active?

This turned up again here and this time it appears to be more serious as it is stopping scanning and getting a filelist while browsing a folder.

At the time I kinda dismissed this as a minor problem and assumed that file would be ignored, and the logs you made at the time showed this and you said they were still worked.
I was finally able to get a video with these closed captions and verified that it is causing the other problems.

This has just been fixed and is waiting to be merged with the main code so should be in the next release. This is the issue I made.
