Cannot stream mp4 file to PS3

Post by CaptainMolyneux »

Hey,

I tried to stream an MP4 file, codec H264 MPEG-4 AVC (part 10) (avc1) 960x540 fps 29. Audio: MPEG AAC Audio (mp4a) to my PS3, but it just spits back "Data defect" and then marks the file as invalid (thumbnail disappears). I can stream many other movies with UMS to the PS3, but not this one. I suspect it's a format thing, and I may be able to "handbrake the file" into another format.

I can stream the file with no problem directly to my Nexus 7, so things tend to point towards the PS3 ... I just thought UMS transcoded stuff so that files the PS3 didn't eat could be converted into something it could eat?

I attached trace logfiles and requested by SubJunk et al here on the forums many times.

Hope you can help. I can add that I tried on all versions of UMS I can download, and it runs on Windows (obviously if you see the logs)

The change log said:
Added a new transcoding option to allow H.264 video with AAC audio
That sounds like what I got, but how do I enable it? I'm using v4 clean install.

Hi CaptainMolyneux, welcome to the forum :) The debug log needs to be made after you reproduce the bug (try to play the file), otherwise it gives us no information about it

See.. that's the strange part. I did.

It's like the PS3 just gives up on the mp4 file and I do not see any errors in the trace either. I'll try to reproduce it again, but I suspect same result. It may not even be UMS related, but perhaps we can find a UMS workaround to faulty PS3's?
I'll get back in this thread.

Cheers.
