NO transcoding/remux, ONLY streaming MKV with embedded srt

Post by theque »

First of, the capabilities of this software suite is amazing, so thanks for all the effort.

But I would like some help on how to configure UMS to ONLY do streaming, no repackaging, transcoding, or anything.
My panasonic is capable of handling ALL my mkv files with audio, video, and embedded srt subtitles, and everything plays fine with oShare's dlna server, that just streams the files.
But oShare has other issues that annoys me, and I'd prefer to use UMS.

But it seems I cant get it to JUST stream!! It keeps repackaging/muxing or transcoding in such a way that the subtitles that I cant select subtitles from the TV, which is easily done with oShare.

I've been trying to disable transcoder logic, and to skip transcoding of mkv files, but no matter what I try, my panasonic either doesnt find any subtitles to choose from, when using UMS, or it doesnt even show me the menuitem to select subtitles.

Surely this should be easy?

There are a couple of threads already discussing the same feature:

But I couldn't find any way of forcing remux other than tweaking the .conf file to accept all common formats and codecs so UMS don't try transcoding.

Thanks for the reply. I tried fiddling a bit by modifying the existing panasonic.conf, but I cant make it work. Now its not even capable of showing the files in a directory, but just "lost connection".

I guess I'll have to stick to oShare for a while yet :?
