AC3 5.1 no sound with maybe solution?!
Hello everyone,
I'm a long time UMS user but I never posted something yet.
last month I downloaded a movie that the sound was is in ac3 5.1 and it doesnt work. Because the mkv file was including another language track I didnt really bother with that.
2 days ago I downloaded a tv show and this time, again, video ok but not audio (ac3 5.1) I tried alot of stuff in the settings, updating java, reading alot on the forum, trying other streaming program
well I tried everything, almost.
One thing that get my attention was the the silence for the first 7 secondes of the video, you know the HBO logo with the fuzz ? It wasnt there (even on my computer) So I exported the track using mkvmerge and I found that the first 7 secondes was not a silence but somekind of "skip" from mkv file.
It was that, Delay relative to video : 7s 474ms
Inside mkvmerge in the Format specific options I removed the delay by adding -7474 in the delay field. And it worked !
The next thing I did was to take the audio track, add a silence before each 6 tracks of 7474ms and reimport it into the mkv file and voilà !
My question is, it is a bug that the universal media server can't handle the delay relative to video or what I did was a pure coincidence and I was lucky ?
Thank you for all the work with universal media server
PS, sorry for my bad english

Re: AC3 5.1 no sound with maybe solution?!
If I remember well, in past I already made a post about a bug in Mencoder(?) that high delays are ignored or will broke transcoding.
Switch to TRACE LOGging and try to play affected file with high delay to reproduce problem. Post the generated log.zip here.
If I am right, high delays broke transcodes so bug should be outside UMS but this bug I saw years ago so maybe it is already fixed, who knows....log will show.
