Problem with subtitle characters

Hi, I just setup my Samsung ES7000 and based on my huge research I installed Universal Media Server to my Mac to use UPNP streaming. However I'm facing some trouble in subtitles.

I was able to work .mkv streaming with subtitles but some Turkish characters are rendered incorrectly. I read earlier messages and the suggested solution was to set Codepage for non-Unicode subtitles to Windows-Turkish (cp1254). However, this solution doesn't work for me. I also played with other settings about subtitle but none seemed to work for Samsung TV.

I'm attaching my the subtitle file and most noticeably the Turkish character 'ı' or 'İ' is rendered weirdly like a 'Y' with an accent. If you can test in your system, or come with a solution I'll be much appreciated. Thanks.

I've been able to do some more tests and I think this may help. I've tried showing the same file+subtitle with samsung 32ES5500 and now subtitles were shown correctly, but again subtitle characters look weird with Samsung 55ES7000. Can you please have a look again? I can provide you anything that may help to find out. Many thanks.

A quick question how have you saved your srt file? What encoding are you saying you got on the srt file?
When I open your srt file in my windows wordpad it looks something like

gözde þarkýlardan biri olacak.</i>

which looks ok to me (not knowing any turkish).

I had a similar problem with my swedish subs and when saving the srt file in CP1252 it read correctly ut I assume that you're system reads it as UTF-8 (or vice versa).
Try and change the coding in the UMS GUI or restore the srt file in the other format...

I'm downloading the .srt files from a website but obviously I'm playing with its encoding to see if it'll be fixed in UMS. I tried saving the .srt file both in UTF-8 and cp1254 encoding but I'm still having the same problem in my TV. (While after saving in cp1254 encoding it started to look well in my Mac)

The correct form of the text shall be:

You suggested me to change the coding in UMS, is that the setting 'codepage for non-unicode subtitles' setting under MEncoder, if so I already set it to cp1254.

And could you please elaborate what is restoring the .srt file in other format, I couldn't quite understand that.

Yeh, if you fetch the file of the web it is probably UTF-8. That's why my turkish stuff look weird since it is copied from the file I downloaded form here and then saved on my computer in my code page. How to save in another code page is a bit of a mystery but a real simple java program could fix it.

I ran your file through it using UTF-8 as src format and cp1254 as dest format and it worked like a charm. At least it looks like the stuff you copied in here And the srt file found in your zip as input file...

Try testing some with this....

A quick question, when I ran my .srt file through that website it gave me an empty file to download. Did you actually download a file with .srt extension?

Also what it the model of your client player? As I said, subtitles played well on my Samsung ES5500, but not with my Samsung ES7000.
