Newbie Issues
Hello - I am a newbie to UMS. I have been using the old PS3 Media Server for a little bit with my PS3 and decided to update to UMS. However, my experience hasn't been too wonderful. It must be something I'm doing wrong so I decided to make this post to see if anyone can offer suggestions. When using the PS3 Media Server, photos, audio, and MP4's work fine. All of the above also works fine with UMS. However, when playing DVD-ISO rips from the VIDEO_TS folders, I find that with the PS3 Media Server, the audio is very out of sync and the video looks highly interlaced. In addition, the resolution does not fill the 1080 TV screen that the DLNA (or PS3 ) is connected to. I've tried transcoding but w/o any improvement. So I decided to try UMS. I tried versions 5.14, 5.31, and 6.0.0-a1. They all failed when trying to play DVD-ISO rips. In fact they were worse than the PS3 Media Server in that they had no audio at all and the video stutters through. I tried transcoding and various settings w/o success. In addition, I get a lot of errors stating corrupt data which goes away on restart. Finally, I cannot figure out how to remove the "Resume:filename" files from the list. I had to go back to the PS3 Media Server since it seems to work a little bit better than UMS in regards to videos. Another point: the Web streams like "webcams" do not work either. They seem to fail. Lastly, when trying to activate the plugins, it says I need admin rights which I already have so I'm at a loss there as well.
It seems like this could be a great app but I can't believe how much trouble I'm having here so if anyone can guide me in regards to settings or adjustments, that would be great. Maybe it's the fact I'm using a PS3 vs. a PS4? When it streams audio to my Onkyo Receiver, it has no issues. Primarily DVD video with the PS3, the plugins, resumed files, and the web streams are the issues. I am on Win7Pro 64-Bit 16GB RAM running off an SSD drive so I don't think I am under spec to run this.
Thanks!

First I'd like to say that I nothing about running DVD ISO's, so someone else would have to answer to that.
About the "resume" files I don't think there's a way of deleting them other than completing playback of the media in question, which is hard if playback doesn't work. You can disable to "resume" feature completely though, under "Navigation/Share settings" -> Virtual folders/Files -> "Enable video resuming".
I don't really know what you mean by "Web streams like webcams", so I can't answer that.
About the admin rights, there's been a clarification there in later versions when it says that what it actually needs is write access to the "plugins" folder. Often that means that you have to run UMS as an administrator though. To do that, rightclick the icon and select "Run as administrator" when starting UMS.
Your setup sounds a lot like mine, I have a PS3 and an Onkyo as well. I think PS3 is one of the best supported renderers in UMS, it is after all a fork of PS3 Media Server.
Windows users often have firewall problems, and turning off the local firewall is one thing to try to get things working. I doubt that has anything to do with your DVD ISO playback problems though.

I don't do dvd ISO's either. The only thing I can think of would be to use MEncoder for the ISO's and selecting the Deinterlace Filter option.
