Does your TV connects activly to UMS?

Post by OlliL »

Hi,

I wonder if this is due to my setup at home or because of my TV or a general issue:
Whenever I turn on my TV, I have to wait either for the next ALIVE signal of UMS (around every 5 minutes) or restart UMS to get my TV registered as a renderer in UMS. I didn't checked so far (with tcpdump e.g.) if my TV (SONY Bravia 40EX716) searches activly for a DLNA-Server or not. It could be that efen if the TV is doing so, this does not reach my Sort-of-virtual-machine where I keep UMS running.

Is your TV activly registering itself in UMS when it is switched on? If yes, is your TV a Sony BRAVIA? ;)

I would say yes! - my older model W5500 Bravia gets registered shortly after it turns on.

I can attest to your issue, OlliL.

Firstly, if my TV is on (Samsung UA55D7000), UMS will find the TV no problems.
My issue lies when i've turned my TV off, leave UMS on then after a little bit turn my TV back on. It can take a long time to find my TV again. It's always quicker to just click the "Restart Server" button on UMS after the TV is on and, of course, it finds the TV straight away.

I don't find it a great issue, but i understand it may be annoying.
I have also stopped short of Wiresharking my computer to see if my TV actively searches, but i can if anyone thinks it's relevent. (Also i can send some logs in if needed)
