[Solved] LG 55UF950V - UMS keeps downsampling videos to 1080p
[Solved] LG 55UF950V - UMS keeps downsampling videos to 1080p
So far I have this problem with UMS on my LG 55UF950V tv set. While everything else seem to work fine when it comes to 4k videos UMS starts transcoding everything down to 1080p h264. Is there a way to fix the configuration to assure UMS the tv is "4k-able" and so just send the files as-is without any transcoding?
Re: LG 55UF950V - UMS keeps downsampling videos to 1080p
If you can confirm that 4k works over the network (some 4k TVs still only support 1080p over networks) then we can tweak the renderer config for you. Please attach debug logs so we can help

Sure, here it is. Thanks.

Re: LG 55UF950V - UMS keeps downsampling videos to 1080p
As for the support for 4k over network... I can't confirm that. I can't find anything on internet about it and can't test it myself because both dlna solutions that I use (UMS on the PC and Plex on my freenas NAS) fail to deliver 4k in this setup. The TV is top of the line with a complete set of hdmi 2.0 and usb 3.0 ports, and it's not anywhere near of the first generations 4k TVs and their shortcomings. I would be completely surprised to be limited in anything.
On my old fullhd TV (LG 55LA660S) the same file is downscaled to 1080p and transcoded as MPEG2 (I don't know why, the TV is perfectly capable of handling H264) but plays just fine. On this TV the file is downscaled to 1080p and transcoded to H264 but doesn't play properly. It runs a quarter of a second at a time and then the next quarter second is spent showing the "waiting" animation and then resuming for another another quarter and so on. Pausing for a while doesn't help, the dark portion of progress bar that usually shows how much is buffered ahead is barely a few pixels wide in front of the current playing position.

Re: LG 55UF950V - UMS keeps downsampling videos to 1080p
You can test if your TV supports 4K video for streaming simply to go to the TRANSCODE folder and choose [No transcoding].
Re: LG 55UF950V - UMS keeps downsampling videos to 1080p
Yeah just let us know if the [No Transcoding] thing works
Re: LG 55UF950V - UMS keeps downsampling videos to 1080p
It says "unable to play".
Re: LG 55UF950V - UMS keeps downsampling videos to 1080p
So it is not supported by the TV and there is no way to solve it for streaming. You can try set the MaxVideoWidth and
MaxVideoHeight in the TV.conf to the 4k resolution but I am afraid that it will need so much CPU power for transcoding to be useful.

Yeah so UMS is making the right decision in this case - we are downsampling to the highest supported resolution. Thanks for getting back to us about this
