Converted MKV will not play on PS3

Hi

Firstly LOVE UMS, great server and has worked flawlessly til now, however today I have struck my first problem

BACKGROUND

Have ripped my collection of around 40 or so HD-DVDs (remember these) to MKV files using MakeMKV
I retained the 5.1 English soundtrack on each rip and each one averages about 15 to 20 GB

Now this is too high so used Handbrake to reduce the 1080p file to 720p using the Apple TV 2 preset (again retaining the 5.1 soundtrack)
This gives me a file about 4 to 5 GB in size


PROBLEM

The PS3 will show both the old (large) file and new (smaller) file fine. Displays title etc no problem
It will, however, only play the old (larger) file.

When I try and play the newly created 720p file, it starts to play and selecting the info icon on the PS3 shows correct info, but it never starts playing the file

Both files play fine on the PS3 so the new file does play etc

Can anyone advise me how I can reduce a 1080p MKV with 5.1 to a 720p file (also with 5.1) that will play on my PS3 using UMS

I use MeGUI for conversions, I recommend you look into that. Unfortunately I don't have any experience with Handbrake so can't advise you on that.

Personally, I have made good experiences with the AppGeeker Video Converter.

PS3 accepts avi (or mp4) files well, so just convert mkv to those format.

BTW, the program has preset to convert mkv directly to PS3, so you don't need to set the output options.

I use Handbrake myself and don't have issues using the profile 'Normal' in the program.
Is there a reason why you selected AppleTV 2 profile?
The size reduction is also ok if you use the 'Normal' profile...
