Adding another device

Post by kris214 »

Hello. I've been searching for help with my query and haven't been able to find it.

I'm running Universal Media Server on my PC and its great. My Samsung TV detects it and plays everything I have shared. Definitely one of the best and simplest DLNA programs I've tried. I'm wanting to progress it to more devices.

I'd like to add my partners laptop as a player/receiver of the shared files from my PC. Basically my partner has her own TV shows which she loves but I can't stand them so I usually watch something else on the TV streamed from the PC. For her to watch her shows she either has to sit in front of the PC or copy the video from the PC onto her laptop so she can watch it in bed. What I'd like to do is take away the hassle of having to copy the videos to the laptop and instead use Universal Media Server to stream the show from the PC to the laptop whilst I stream another show from the PC to TV. Is this possible?

Many thanks in advance.

Hi, you wouldn't have to do any of that, if the folder on the PC is shared and she can see the shared folder on her laptop, then all you need is a media player such as VLC installed on the laptop and open the file from within VLC.
