Subtitles wont show (mkv - external srt)
UMS version: 2.2.6
TV: Samsung ue46d5000 (allshare)
OS: Mac OS X 10.8.2
I tried to play an mp4 with an external srt file and everything worked fine,
but when I tried play to play an mkv file with an external srt file, the external subtitles won't show on the TV. However the TV shows the following title when playing the mkv file "<filename>{External Subtitles}"
Can you help me?

Re: Subtitles wont show (mkv - external srt)
2.2.6 doesn't display subs with mkv files for me either. The titles are listed as having {External Subtitles} but they don't display. It may have reverted to not displaying them only if the mkv has embedded subs (as all of mine do ... I'm waiting for that golden hour when UMS will display the embedded subs so I don't need a bunch of extra srt files laying about, but ...) I haven't tested it on a file without embedded subs, yet.
[UPDATE] If the mkv file has an embedded sub, the external subs don't display. The subs do display if the mkv doesn't have an embedded sub.

Re: Subtitles wont show (mkv - external srt)
Thanks for the update, I will have to strip the mkv's of their subs. That should not be so hard with mkvtoolnix.
Re: Subtitles wont show (mkv - external srt)
Ahhh, I'm going to look at alternatives to UMS. These kinds of regressive bugs are not a good sign that devs are in control of their code.
Re: Subtitles wont show (mkv - external srt)
After some investigation I've found that this isn't a new bug, it has been around for 3+ years in PMS, it just didn't show itself until the default settings were changed.
You can go back to the previous behaviour by going to the MEncoder settings page on the Transcoding Settings tab, and clearing the "audio/subtitles language priority" input box. By default it is *,* but it used to be blank.

Yeah I read it but the bug was something different.
Re: Subtitles wont show (mkv - external srt)
Ok, maybe I didn't read post carefully so understood it in wrong manner
But it will be good to fix default settings "*,*" to something else because it will broke all the separate audio or subs settings.
UMS will always take anything due to *,* instead of audio or subs preference set.
I never spotted it because I never used empty audio/sub preference

Re: Subtitles wont show (mkv - external srt)
What do you think would be a better default value?
Re: Subtitles wont show (mkv - external srt)
UmsLang,off?
Better than *,* but not ideal. I am from Czech but using Ums GUI in Eng
The best way would be ignoring aud/sub and its default *,* when separate aud,sub is set so it will not override it.
But when aud/sub will be defined so it will not be *,*, it will override separate aud and sub settings
