MKV stuttering with stable and 3.0a5
Hey all -
I'm running into some significant issues getting MKV files to play without stuttering. I can play AVI and MP4 without those issues, but not MKV. I haven't tried ISO.
I have tried the machine in both a wireless and then wired configuration without any change. The system, ideally, would be wireless. This is a Core I5 2500k (IIRC) system with 16GB of ram, 6950 video card (not sure if that hardware gets used for video transcoding or not?), SSD (streaming from) and this is streaming to a PS3. I've forced the IP address of the machine, and whitelisted only the PS3, and that hasn't changed anything.
This seems to be a common problem, but no clear resolution. This occurs with both the stable (2.6.5?) release and the current 3.0a5 build. I'm running Ubuntu 13.04.
Thanks!

Re: MKV stuttering with stable and 3.0a5
In Radeon cards is there a setting like Nvidia's CUDA?
if so then i assume the GPU for Transcoding check box would work...

GPU Acceleration is greyed out, as you can see in this screenshot. This is true for 2.6.5 as well as 3.0a5.

The GPU acceleration is only a feature of Windows UMS i believe. I could be wrong but someone can correct me.

Re: MKV stuttering with stable and 3.0a5
It is a common problem with no one fix because it can be caused by so many different things.
Since it happens for you with a wired connection too, it's probably not a connection problem. So the next thing I'd try is to check the buffer in the UMS Status tab while playing - is it full when it stutters?

Re: MKV stuttering with stable and 3.0a5
I'm dealing with a similar issue, however I have found the cause to be a spike in data transfer bitrate.
I notice that certain MKV files spike during certain scenes. It does not necessarily mean that the scene should have such a high data rate.
Pressing 'select' on the PS3 controller displays the current stream speed. On average, my UMS settings over wireless lay around 3-12 Mbps, suitable for:
Computer > Wireless N > Router > Ethernet > PS3
For some reason, certain scenes spike to 40+... I really don't understand why.

Hi BuffMcBigHuge
I'll need a debug log to see why that's happening
